These things are bad asses. I need a pair but I want a dozen.
Signatures have a 255 character limit that I could abuse, but I am not Cecil B. DeMille.
Re: Badcat Unleashed
I just received mine in the mail a couple of days ago. It took about 4 weeks for delivery.
I've spent a couple of hours playing with it. I'm impressed so far - it really is very transparent. I also like being able add effects to the output of a tube amp with the built in effects loop.
It looks like its built like a tank and they use a B&O IcePower module for the 100watt PA.
So far I've tried it with my BC Audio #7 and my take on a K50. I put a Boss DD-6 delay in the effects loop. Next I want to try the wet/dry setup in the video.

Has anyone opened it up yet? I just want to know how the load is implemented.

Hmmmmmm...
Does this mean that one could start using a, for instance, tweed Deluxe and use the Unleash and an extension cabinet instead of having to mic the Deluxe to better fill a medium room?
The demo suggests that you can plug anything up to 100W into it. It is an attenuator/amplifier. What's the max power coming out of the Unleash? 100W regardless of input?

Yes. In the simplest form you can think of it as a dummy load with a line out into a 100 watt amp. There's a similar product called the Ultimate Attenuator.Zippy wrote:Hmmmmmm...

Up to a max of 120w, depending on where you have the volume control set.Zippy wrote:Hmmmmmm...

Cheap. A quality load with a loop and a line and a 100w of power. I like these things a lot.

I just want to borrow one for a day...
I wonder if it the load part is similar to Randall Aiken's reactive load:

There's an epic thread on building one, with clips:

Great! I'll pull out my Gibsonette GA-6, put a 65w speaker in the combo cab, hook this up in between, crank the crap out of it.
Guess I need to contact BadCat about one.

Here's another interesting approach to simulating the reactive load of a speaker, with even a voice coil warming feature:

I don't think I want to plug a Marshall into a light bulb. Fizz. Pop. BOOM.

Yeah, Marshalls are supposed to dim the lights, not make things brighterReeltarded wrote:I don't think I want to plug a Marshall into a light bulb. Fizz. Pop. BOOM.
I'd just like to find a solution similar to the Badcat, only a circuit I could build into an amp. Build a small low power amp and tweak it to sound great, then run it into a reactive load followed by a class D 100 watt (hell 200 watt stereo) to scale it to any venue. With post power amp fx loop.
I can buy a class D 600 watt amp for $99 and it weights a couple of pounds at most.
Buried in the long thread I linked to earlier are some sound clips. The difference between a reactive load and a resistive load are night and day. Even Kenny G could hear the difference.
