Ladies and Gentleman, please welcome The Contraband
A while back my bass player shows up to rehearsal with another bass cabinet. He's owned it for a while and it's been stored in his basement. He says the drummer needs it to hear him properly. I think to myself, he can't hear you because he's too damn busy trying to drown you out by pounding his drums. We are in a 20' x 30' room and they both wear earplugs. It's common occurence, the offender takes out his earplugs so he can have a conversation and says something like, "I can't hear everyone very well." A few days later I notice I have a mouse in the house. I set some traps and kill about 5 of them. WTF? I think maybe someone left the door open to the garage and they came in. Fast forward 2 or 3 months and the bass player says, his rig isn't working right. Sure enough his system sounds all hashed out. He thinks it's his active bass or his new amp. I check it all out while he watches and I inform him it's the speaker cabinet. I open it up and what do I see? Chewed up speaker wire and lot's of missing pink insulation and more insulation that has been balled up formed into a nest. Oh, the effing cab is ported. I need to setup some kind of border patrol system to stop indigent musicians from smuggling mouse and earplug contraband into my house. He's says he's sorry he knew he had a mouse problem in his basement.

I can symphathize. I worked many years as a service tech/luthier for a multi-company service center. Several years ago a fellow brings in a JCM800 head which he says keep blowing fuses. The amp is dirty, but seems physically sound. I pull the chassis and -as God is my witness- a FLOOD of cockroaches proceeds to rush out of the amp! Honestly, I was stunned. The blasted things went everywhere. The amp had roasted cockroaches everywhere there were high voltage points. I can only surmise that they came in through the input jacks.
We had to have a pest control company come in and spray ever since. Previously we'd never had a problem.
I can't stand cockroaches or mice. Good Luck. FWIW, I like the snap traps. The "snap" is so satisfying.
Regards.

I have a Rat Zapper.
4 AA's and an inverter conspire to charge a bank of caps.
The thing has contact plates that the intruder walks on.
"Bzvvvvvvt!" And a shrill squeel.
Just dump and reset.

LOL! Mice love insulation but not bassquakes so much. My friend blew a small village of them out of a ported cabinet at a rehearsal on a new to him rig and with everyone wireless we mostly ran like the ladies we were.

The thing is, the nasty buggers will get into anything. We had a guy bring in an old guitar in its case for strings. Nobody noticed a small hole had been chewed through the bottom side of the case. Then when the guy opened the case, there was a nest of the beasties in the pocket under the neck. How long that took, I have no idea.

Cats love to sleep on the pillow inside a ported kick drum. Ported kick drums make great cat launchers.

Hide glue is delicious. I know. I have tasted them all. Horse, possum, rabbit.. mystery domestic. Rabbit is sweeter but possum sticks better.
Anyhow, rodents love old guitars. I have seen amcouple Martins that were destroyed by the bastards. The cases are yummy too..
