Tommy Emmanuel

Post by skyboltone »

Haven't been around in a few days. Went and saw Tommy Emmanuel show at one of the Casinos here in Reno Thursday night. Stunned. I've been to a lot of concerts that I've walked out pleased and lot's that I've walked out of disappointed. This one is the first one I've walked out of and seriously thought that it might have been the best ever. You need to see him if you are at all into acoustic. He's that good

I agree he is amazing and a great personality too. So glad his health is back and he can tour and enjoy what he does best.

One of my favorites. One of the few bestowed with the title CGP by Chet Atkins himself. There's a great version of him playing Classical Gas on YouTube.

Tommy is a savant with the guitar in many ways...

I wish I had HALF his energy. You can spend ALOT of time watching youtube videos of him playing everything...and I mean everything.

I love his stage presence and friendly demeanor. Great example here in collaboration with Jake Shimabukuro

We could overrun this board with youtube postings of Tommy. Find the one of him playing Purple Haze on a back porch. Yes, Purple Haze on an acoustic. Go ahead, I dare ya. I want some of what Tommy's smokin.

He played and SANG that one Thursday night. Surprised me too. I didn't know it had lyrics. He wrote it for his youngest daughter who, not surprisingly, is named Angelina.

We drove 250 miles to see him in Kentucky a couple of years ago - worth every mile. We had front row center seats in a high school auditorium. It was absolutely amazing! He inspired me to learn fingerpicking. Now I have everything he's ever recorded and don't get tired of it.

Even if your not a big fan of acoustic guitar, if you get a chance to see him do it.
