Hello all,
I have built a few amps and used a "Fender-style" jewel lamp holder on most of them. One thing I have struggled with is how to easily and effectively tighten the holder into the chassis. The nut that comes with the holder assembly is large in diameter but fairly thin and it ends up being tucked under the lip of the chassis, and you can't get a socket onto it because of how the rest of the holder is designed. Is there some sort of offset wrench that would work for this? Has anyone else found this to be at least a little frustrating?
thanks,
Dave
Is there a good wrench for Fender-style jewel lamp holders??

Bruce from Mission amps seems to have just the thing: http://www.missionamps.com/hardware.shtml
I probably should pick up one of these, too--- I've always used small channel locks and a hammer/drift.
I've got some builds using BF/SF repro chassis coming up...................gldtp99

That's just the thing! I wonder why it isn't more universally offered - what a knuckle saver!

Hi.
Get one of these wrenches from Bruce.
I've got one, and it's perfect for the job.
No more needle nose pliers.
Best.

Please understand that IMO an answer to this question is of no practical relevance at all. - Max

I bought the wrench from Bruce a few years ago and it saves on cussing and headaches.

If you have a grinder, you can grind down an old cheap wrench. You can find ones that are angled..cheap ones are also easy to bend. Ive done a few for switches and other things on the amps too.polaris26 wrote:Hello all,

Yeah the wrench needs to be flat and thin like a bicycle wrench and then bent 90 degrees to get in close to the chassis.
I went through my large selection of various flat wrenches but didn't have the correct size to work. Even my dad's old flat wrenches fron machining and farming days didn't work so I dug into my pockets and ordered one from Bruce.

Re: Is there a good wrench for Fender-style jewel lamp holders??
the mission wrench is ok - but the electricians method (screwdriver and hammer) still works best to get it really tight.
I have developed a technique with the mission wrench that involves the jewel cover and 2 hands, but on an angled chassis its still not the perfect tool. Get it tight with the wrench, and hit it with the electricians method to get another 16th of a turn and you are golden.

That method helps to find any hidden solder blobs too
