Progress picture of #102 amp

Post by brentm »

Well, I spent the better part of my day on my staycation working my amp. Having 80 percent of the flying leads done by this morning, this is how far I got in a about 3-4 hours. I worked until my iPad ran out of juice. Having that iPad has been incredibly handy... just to reference photos and diagrams..... invaluable!

Getting all those leads off soldered on the board seemed to take quite a while. And it was somewhat tedious.

Some of the wires are roughed in but I think I got just about all of the connections on V1 made and the NFB connections.

Any suggestions or recommendations are welcome! Thanks for all your help on here! I hope to have this sucker done by Labor day.

Just a little construction suggestion.

It's usually best to work around the circumference of the amp rather than the middle. Long wires flush with the chassis first. For suggestion:

Relay power supply first, test it!
Relay to foot switch
Install all your ground leads
Jacks > tone controls > pre amp and PI
Transformers, test before hooking up to the board
Power supply, test it!
Then the main board and the flying leads

That way you have less undo and redo.

What's the value / type of your presence cap?

Thanks Eric!

You know, that's a 5uf Sprague cap. I can't remember if that was in there because it started out as a #124 or if I just couldn't find a 2.2uf cap? I just checked my parts bin and I have 3 old orange sprague 3uf caps (0-50v DC).

Thanks for the other suggestions!! I did the bias and the transformer/board for the relays... its out of picture... but they're wired up but untested.
