universal gain stage, trainwreck pages

Post by HobbswheresCalvin »

In the trainwreck pages, there is mention of a universal gain stage that can be added either at the beginning of the guitar signal or in the second position after the first preamp stage,

I noticed the second tube in the express is not being used on the first side. Is that a place where i could add this stage

How does it sound, i am sure someones tried it, and if not why not?

Paralleling tube stages will change the output resistance and changes how this stage interacts with the preceding and following gain-stage. TBH it changes how the entire amp sounds since you are modifying stages that correspond to the tonestack, arguably the most sensitive part of the Express.

Curiously, what is the point in adding more gain to an amp that has tons of it? Are you trying to get it to break at lower volumes or it doesn't scream high enough for you.

haha, exactly, and i am playing metal, which is why the idea has occurred to me. tho it doesnt seem to need it so far. so far its perfect. i just use my saturator for distortion at low volumes for now until i get the ppimv installed
