New surfin' amp
Finished this last w/e - based on a BF amp with old flame reverb and 6G16 bias-vary trem wrapped in a tweed style chassis. Weighs a ton. Quite loud and surfy. Sounds good with my Jazzie.

Nice! Really nice!
Re: New surfin' amp
NICE!
Any sound clips yet ?
I've got a Hoffman version of that in the works; board's done, transformers just arrived & its also going in a tweed-style chassis w/2-12 cab.
Got to do all the chassis holes/drilling next.
Looking forward to getting it going, glad to hear you like yours.

I like the dress you bought for it!
Signatures have a 255 character limit that I could abuse, but I am not Cecil B. DeMille.

Very cool, working in those tweed chassis's are a bit tight for fat fingered me (although this looks wider than say a deluxe for example), good job Man!

Re: New surfin' amp
Tubeswell this looks like something I built. Lots of "random" cap choices and really just using whatever I have on hand at the time. Then again nothing is ever truly random, I like to think of my cap choices more as fate (it was this caps fate to run across my hand at the time that I needed that value
). FWIW I tend to use my (supposedly) aurally superior caps earlier on in an amp (first stage, tonestack) where the subtle differences I think have a larger influence over the final sound. Don't know if you do the same, just something that I got in the habit of doing for whatever reason.
Also do you prewire the PCB's before you install them or wire everything once the board is installed?

What's that row of grommets at the far right (input) side of the circuit board?

Re: New surfin' amp
Looks like either a ground "buss" or he ran a few test eyelets before starting the main ones
.

the ground buss for the pre-amp (goes to the input jack ground(s))Zippy wrote:What's that row of grommets at the far right (input) side of the circuit board?

Yep - just grabbed what was on top of the stash/pileCliff Schecht wrote:Tubeswell this looks like something I built. Lots of "random" cap choices and really just using whatever I have on hand at the time. Then again nothing is ever truly random,
Populate the board, then wire the whole board in, then subsequently fix the bits that I should've got right the first timeCliff Schecht wrote:Also do you prewire the PCB's before you install them or wire everything once the board is installed?
