One thing I'm finding unusual is HAD's decision to use coaxial cable on the hot end of the master volume pot in the #0102 amps well as earlier amps.
If I had to use one piece of co-ax on the master it would be the wiper, given that the wiper will have less signal present when the master is set low, and the run from the master volume wiper to the jacks on the back chassis and back to the input of the PI is rather long. Whereas the run for the hot end of the master volume is quite short.
What do you suppose is the logic behind the inclusion of the co-ax on the master volume?
Co-ax on the master volume?

Mojo, Dude.
HAD wouldn't have invested in the labor if it didn't make a difference (that one time, so it became the default).

Re: Co-ax on the master volume?
Granted Mojo is a powerful marketing tool, but I'm looking to quantify his actions. As you would have seen the #183 and the Bluesmaster doesn't use shielded cable at all on the master volume.HAD wouldn't have invested in the labor if it didn't make a difference (that one time, so it became the default).

Re: Co-ax on the master volume?
weird...are there any pictures showing this?
evolution. Perhaps initially he felt it would be needed with the gains he was going for but later discovered it was not critical (easy to not ground the shields and then experiment to determine which ones really need it, which ones don't and if it makes a sonic difference to ground it to different places...say at the pot or at the tube...
Pretty easy to think he could have started with one thing and done it for a spell because it was working and then in a single afternoon of experimenting on an amp (maybe around the time of him working on a new voicing?) discover a few things he could do differently that improved upon what he felt was good...

apologies for the run on sentences, lack of punctuation, etc.

I've attached three pictures of the master volumes of the 2nd generation ODS #0040, the transition generation ODS #0094, and the 4th generation ODS #0124.ampdork wrote:are there any pictures showing this?
I've attached a picture of the usual 1st, 2nd, and 3rd generation preamp out only / no power amp in configuration of #0040.
I've attached a picture of the usual 4th generation preamp out / power amp in of #0124.
The usual transition generation preamp out / power amp in you can see on the #0094 picture.
Some transition generation ODS amps with a silver chassis and the ratio on the back - like #0075 e.g. - have a preamp out / power amp in stereo jack with - AFAIK - no coax cables soldered to these stereo jacks.
AFAIK #0102 is a usual 4th generation ODS, that was built around 1981 with a classic tone stack and a standard OD and later (AFAIK after the TTYD tour) was updated to skyline specs.
