Post from another forum about a Fender Super 60

Post by rooster »

I just read this and I realize it's a bit off the typical subject matter. But give it a read anyway. These are some emails from Mark Wentling, a designer who worked for Fender on the 80's, via a guy named Glenn. I found it fasinating to see the details presented so honestly, from concerns of cost to variance in components to the need for speed of production. As I read it I can't help but think of the concerns and considerations Ken Fischer was makin in New Jersey as he designed and built his amps. 8)

The second set of emails invloves some mods for the Super 60 amp which of themselves are not too intersesting, but within them Mark talks again about the amp and his thoughts about it.

Fun stuff, Rooster, thanks for posting it. I enjoyed reading Fender the Inside Story by Forrest white. It is a very candid account by all appearances.

Thanks Rooster!

I love these inside stories even if they sometimes dispel the rumors and lore of the tube design days.

These poor engineers that love to design stuff but then are limited by budget constraints or inferior components because they could be bought for less can really ruin a project and the resulting product.
I think Leo Fender's first love was the amplifiers that he produced more so than even the bolt on neck guitars for which he is credited.

He must have felt awful about some of the products that CBS put out.

Don't let that smoke out!
