And another 124 Build close to life

Post by passfan »

I'll give everyone a peek. Perhaps someone will see something wrong and if so I'd be beholdin to ya. I'm waiting on some relay boards to come in and then I'll finish the assembly. The big supply caps are left over from my hi-fi days. They're 270 uf at 450 volts and the parallel resistors are under the board. These things take a lot more than a Trainwreck and I'll be glad to crank her up. Thanks to all here for the help and guidance.

Someone's been busy over the holidays. Nice! I can't wait to hear it.

What's going on with the filter cap board?

I see the two radials that are 270uF each for a 135uF total.

Then two what I think are 20-22uF then two 8uF?

You mentions something about caps under the board?

Don't let that smoke out!

The original 124 layout has two 300's for 150uf. Some are using 200's now but I have these in the shop and they are a bit closer. The series resistors are under the board across each respective radial. The next two 22uf's are shown on the board in the layout. The two 8's represent the chassis mount dual 10's from the layout. I had these and didn't want to buy a can or cut a hole in my CE chassis. The grounds are all separate and taken to their respective spots on the chassis as per the layout. I'm just cheap when I have something suitable laying around. I actually need to move one of my red B+ wires off the first 8uf and back to the 2nd 22uf as I have it on the wrong node in the pic.

Got my relay boards today (thanks Steve P). It won't be long now. I ordered a quad of TAD 6L6WGC's today from AES. They're the ones built to the old GE 6L6GB / RCA 6L6GC specs. Short bottle, black plates, blah, blah. I just got an old pair of these GE types out of a wurlitzer organ and tried them in my big bottle Rocket ......... even my drummer commented on how good they sounded.

I just got a NOS quad of the JAN GE 6L6wgc for my 102 and they sound awesome! The military wgc's are the 6L6gc in a smaller bottle just as you say-I biased them a tiny bit cold just in case. Great way to get some unreal 6L6 for a little less money. I wanted to spring for NOS Sylvania GC's but they are over $300 a quad if you can find them. Maybe next time

And finished a cabinet today. It's taken some time to get to know her and the more I play the better it gets. I used the Marshal style black elephant with the cane grill. Short bottle TAD 6L6GCW's and Amperex 12AX7's (short plate, heerlen)
