TR Bassman conversion

Guys - here's an amp that was modified by Joe at TR. I purchased it from him several years ago. I really like the tone of both the clean and the lead channels.

Man, I expect better building practices than that from the TR boys.

All that red wire going every which way.

Is the amp very noisy?

No it's dead quiet. I mentioned on another post that I picked up a Custom Reverb... the bassman is MUCH quieter than this Custom Reverb at idle with the post-effect master at noon. The post-effect master will introduce some noise on both amps.

I suppose looks aren't everything when it comes to lead dress. At least that's what I'm gathering. Although a well-lead dressed amp is nice to look at. TR's early amps weren't exactly dressed well.

It did come with the Fender bugscreen as the RF shield on the top inside of the cabinet. It was starting to fray so I replaced it with some sheet metal flashing from home depot.

I do wonder about the steel vs. aluminum chassis...

All in all, this is still my favorite amp.

I'm glad you enjoy your amp. I have a modified bassman from K&M also, it's a good sounding amp. I've seen the blue resistors in quite a few Two rocks, does anyone know who makes them?

Yep, from the shade of blue and the width of the tolerance band, it's looks like Xicon.

I'm with Tom on this one. It really looks like a rush job, soldermblobs all over, leads not cut to proper length or tied down. IMHO this would've onlymtaken the builder another 30 seconds per connection to do "right"

Thanks. It's a great sounding amp. No one will argue that it's a bit of a mess to look at.

Anyway, I'm going to remove the photos. Probably best this way...

I sorry to see that you removed the photos. I was going to post photos of my TR bassman mod. Mine looks sloppy but sounds great. Personally, unless the main board has been replaced, I have never seen a mod that looked as tidy as a dedicated build.

I think the new TR look sloppy also. IMO, most true Dumbles look sloppy compared to some of the builds by members. Sometimes the emphasis on the appearance gets in the way of remembering that what the amp sounds like is the most important thing to the player.
