Bassman Ten ODS layout
Hey everyone, I'm trying to figure a layout for my dumble ods build, using a bassman ten chassis. The previous owner cut out a hole for a tube socket right about where the mains capacitors are normally located.
Real estate is not a problem for me because the bassman ten chassis has the capacitors located on the outside of the chassis covered with an aluminum shield, but is there any other reason why not to have a tube located in that position?
It's about halfway between and above what is normally v5 and v6 on a normal dumble layout ods.
Also the bassman ten chassis has v1 and v2 very close to each other, would there be any downside to this from a technical standpoint? There is so much room between v2 and v3 that I'm thinking of implementing a built in dumbleator or something.
Thanks for the time.

Re: Bassman Ten ODS layout
You can always overlay a piece of sheet metal and redrill/ punch for the socket holes.
If just for one or two socket holes or to plug an opening you can cut a piece of aluminum and either screw it down or pop rivet it.
Probably for best aesthetics, if there is quite a bit of rework to do, a full sized piece of tin or aluminum that is fastened down to the top of the chassis would make it more pleasing to the eye rather than having a bunch of patches or re-drills.
Lots of options there.

Re: Bassman Ten ODS tube layout
I think there is a specified distance preamp tubes should be separated by but around 1 1/2 is plenty, 2" even better.WhopperPlate wrote: Hey everyone, I'm trying to figure a layout for my dumble ods build, using a bassman ten chassis. Re: Bassman Ten ODS layout
Thanks for everything guys, my initial reaction was to just cover the holes up and redrill per Structo's advice, but I guess I was thinking lazy and wondering if things could work the way they are now.
I'll probably patch the power tube socket and redrill the current PI socket hole bigger to fit a power tube socket. I'll still have plenty of room for a dumbleator I think with all the extra space, even if I move and redrill v2 and v3.

Crikey!
You could build a stereo guitar amp in that thing!
Plenty of room!

Re: Bassman Ten ODS layout
Hey everyone, I'm trying to find the best layout to add a choke and extra filament transformer to the Bassman Ten. There's really no space inside the chassis to mount either, so I'm basically trying to squeeze everything on top and find the best orientation for the transformers. Based on the pictures above and below, does anyone have any recommendations? I was thinking of putting the filament tranny between the PT and OT and having the choke towards the front of the chassis.
Thanks for the time.

I found in Fender chassis you can fit the relay transformer between the PT and front, near the pilot lamp. This is inside the chassis.

Re: Bassman Ten ODS layout
Thanks Chris, but the Relay PT I have is just too big to fit in that spot. It's a Hammond P-T166N12.

Chris, I may be wrong but doesn't the Bassman 10 have a smaller OT compared to the earlier models (AB150, AC568)? If so, you may want to consider another with bigger iron.

Re: Bassman Ten ODS layout
Bump, anyone see anything wrong with the transformer arrangement presented?

Looks ok.WhopperPlate wrote:Bump, anyone see anything wrong with the transformer arrangement presented?
I'd do the "head phone" trick and be sure. It's actually quite simple and has provided me with good results.
Re: Bassman Ten ODS layout
Yes, the chassis won't fit in the cabinet with the choke up there. I'd put the choke where the filament xformer is and the filament xformer on the other side of the OT.WhopperPlate wrote:Bump, anyone see anything wrong with the transformer arrangement presented?
