My Express clone build from scratch

Post by 4f153n4 »

Hi All,
Thanks to this forum and the people here who give me a lot of information to build express clone.
After collecting the information and read many discussion I decide to build twreck express by sourcing the component all in my local store (currently I'm in Jakarta) and use part for whatever around here.
So I start to build the chasis from 1,5mm aluminum which have size 100cm x 50 cm for price 90.000 rupiah (about 9 USD) and then I cut with saw to refer to size of the chasis and then formed by clamp.
And then make all hole for tube socket and potensio and so on here the result
[img:604:453]http://photos-f.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak ... 9612_n.jpg[/img]
I use ceramic tube socket for all.
And also I order the power trans and output trans to the local trans wounder for both get price 700.000 rupiah (about 70 USD) with spec like document sugestion and here the result
[img:604:453]http://photos-d.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak ... 1048_n.jpg[/img]

I use eyelet for the board and I wonder that the eyelet I get not from electronic store but from taylor/textile store here  and I get price about 3 USD for 5000 piece of eyelet (imagine how many board we can build from that number ? hahaha)

I will continue this story in the next post.

You're going to want to spin one of those transformers 45 degrees from the other one. Side by side your going to pick up magnetic interference from the fields and induce noise into your circuit.check out the layout guide in the files section. You are following in the spirit of Ken Fischer himself by using what you have. Three cheers. :)

I hope this is correct direction.

Still there, you have to rotate the output transformer 45 degrees.
Check pics of other amps built.

Your going to end up with a great built thanks for post. :)

Spin one of the trannies to reduce noise.

Nice start!

I've altered your picture to indicate what the above posts are
telling you. This is for the reduction of induced transformer noise.

If you already knew this, kindly disregard.

Really? I presumed it to be susceptible to the same induced energy with a
90 degree rotation. My bad geoffrod. I'm glad you told me,

Noel the picture you show is correct for me, but the angle of rotation that the tranny has turned is 1/4 of a full turn, which for mine is 360/4 = 90, i may be on the wrong track, if so please tell me so, and i wasn't trying to be a smart ass.

So what I wanted you to see was that turning the OT is still not as good as it could be.

Once you put it in the new position - like the others have pointed out - you need to TURN the OT on its side. Try to 'see' the wire inside the pic I posted - you can do it with a little imagination. If the covers were removed, you would see that the tranny windings are at 90 degrees to each other. Hmm, so as you move your OT to its new position, ALSO turn it on its side.

It looks like your OT brackets are removable so this should be an easy task. And, may I say, you have done a fantastic job here! Amazing really, and I hope it sounds amazing, too!

Thanks to all of you for the advice and response this make me very convenient to be here and I'm sorry to my late response, so here I have change/spin the OT direction due to your advice but sorry for the bad picture maybe next time I will shoot again with another good camera.
[img:604:453]http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak- ... 1857_n.jpg[/img]

And here I do entering the chassis to the box
[img:604:453]http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak- ... 7414_n.jpg[/img]

for the box I use that we call 'jati belanda' wood because this the wood we get from port used to packaging in the ship from foreign country especially from europe (cmiiw). Before finishing I fired the wood to get unique contour. I hope this still follow the go green spirit
[img:604:453]http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak- ... 9162_n.jpg[/img]

and for the entire part and sound sample I will post later.

Thanks and regards.

The transformer should work well now.

My wife's uncle used to torch all his wood projects including his whole "Sand Dune Saloon" a western theme bar.

Looking good and great use of parts you can find local.

It is good that you are able to build an Express from locally available parts.

In regards to the transformers, they are in a better position now.

But, you should probably use rubber grommets in the holes the wires go through to protect the insulation from chafing.

Like this, sized to the hole you have drilled.
These protect the wires.
