Here is a short video of the 57 RI straight into the Quinn. (As always, I have the Trex roomate in the "loop". No Dumblator). This is part of why I dig 183 so much. The Strat sounds HUGE with those lower mids, and its nothing but a dead stock Fender. All EQ knobs at 12 Oclock, mid switch on, PAB off. This sounds better than the Custom shop Strat, and I believe its because even though they are not suppose to be, the PUPS are clearer and louder. (Not hotter) As Gil said, these are IMO the best pups fender has ever made, and as good as pretty much any vintage Strat pups I have tried. Now i have two Strats that (for me) sound killer through my Dumble. I could never get my Detemple to sound good through it, and that sounded great through everything else I tried it with.
I gotta say - that is fat tone for single coil Strat pickups.
Now Tag, you gotta build you one!! You have all the innards to look at. No shock hazards until power up time and we can walk you through that when the time comes. I am on my ninth build and I am a schlub, unlike the majority of great folks on this site - who have endured me and helped me for 6 plus years.
I love the tone of these amps and have turned many musician friends on the them for the price of parts. Great sense of satisfaction and accomplishment. You can do a 100 watter for around $1000 with your elbow grease. A 50 watter D'Lite style for less. It would make for a great winter time project during your off season. It takes a little bit of patience in the final throws while getting the last 5% out of them but, it is good fun. Think on it.

Thanks. You know, if I could find the time, it would be a blast. Maybe I will give it a go at some point. Right now I am trying to practice with every free moment i have, which is not very much. Anyway, hard to believe but my original thoughts were correct. I like the regular production RI more than the 56 Custom shop. When you cant put two guitars next to each other, its a very hard thing to decide. Here is a rocking clip in a style i rarely play anymore, but probably should. It was fun! I did the rhythm with the Custom shop, and the lead with the production guitar. I had the PAB on the lead which is something I never do. It makes the amp a lot more agrresive, but thats what I wanted for this clip. I should have used the EL34 amp, but was to lazy to switch over, so the 6L6 it is. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S86bAVdy ... e=youtu.be
This is the best of both worlds for me. I put an A/B box between the Cowtipper 35 and the Quinn 183, and the tones are enough to knock you over. For my style and to my ear, these are the best tones I have ever had.
The guitar is the green stock fender 57 RI. reverb is the Cowtippers, and a Trex into the Dumbles pre out/in. Most of it is from the room because it was LOUD.
