C2 is 50pf on the Liverpool.

Thanks Mark, I got it right then....

Hi I put yesterday a 47k + a 100k pot (backside) like Dumble clones it has often. That's a perfect solution. So I can dial in the right amount of grit to the right guitar (HB, SC, P90). A 3 or 4 step rotary switch could be also fit well.JoeCon wrote:OK
So the plan this week is:
try a 47K in R7.
.
But mainly - it´s enough taming. No use of 12AT7 or 12AY7 tubes.

Clever, that will let you tune it from the 47K up to 150K so you can have whatever resistance sounds best. Nice....
Also changed C8 to .004 and much nicer bass and not so "ice pick" bright. But it's still way bright with my Tele and hurts to play it. Tried G12H, Vintage 30 and 25W Greenback...no diff.
Still way more gain than I need.
Thanks...

Have you added a feedback loop yet?

Re: Liverpool: It's alive...HELP!!
These are good tweaks and i really appreciate you sharing. It was the snubber caps that i did on my EL95 Liverpool that really took the icepick out of it. I know this is blasphemy of the simplicity and purity of the Wreck design. However, if you are conservative in the cap values you choose, these only remove stuff you don't want and can't hear. If you tame one section at a time it will also tell you exactly where any weirdness is coming from. You can pull the snubbers out once you identify the trouble spot and fix that problem. YMMV
I just read Geetarpickers post, that is an important item as well in dialing in the amp. I have a presence control on all my LP builds.

This amp I worked on was built by Ceriatone and they put in trimmers everywhere to adjust slope, tail and other areas.
I took the trimmers out.

The feedback loop will noticeably reduce the gain and make the amp cleaner! You don't need to add a presence control with it if you don't want it.
Re: Liverpool: It's alive...HELP!!
GP,
Have not got around to the FB loop yet.
So 8 ohm tap, 100k to where the tail and PI cap come together and then a 47k to gound from there...

Correct though I'm pretty sure it should be a 4.7k to ground not a 47k.
You could even decrease the 100k for more feedback (less actual gain) but 100k is the stock value.

Re: Liverpool: It's alive...HELP!!
I just reworked my 'Pool to have a tube rectifier and a choke. Very pleased with it, thus far. It's a bit more forgiving with the rectifier and the tubes are much happier with their bias. Tweaking the feedback resistor is a good way to reduce some of the high end and I've also had the idea to change the treble cap to 500pf, also to aid in making it less bright. Might not do that, though. Didn't bother with the 500pf bright cap in mine and have a single 100pf. That can be very nice with guitar's volume knob moving around.

Hi,
that could be an other possibility: see below.
But as written above: the NFB is your 1st must. to bring it down to normal level. Maybe the peek will disappear with it. 100k is standard, but still high -use down to 68k, 56k, 47k ... as you like, and than you can still trim it a bit down, as shown above.
PS: for me the LP is a bit to bassy, because of LesPaul with HB. I try to brighten it

Yes, 4k7 sorry about that...will try it later tonite.
Hans
With my PRS Mira and HB I still get way too much treble. Running the amp now I have Vol 1/4, T 1/4, B 3/8, Cut 1/4, Master 3/4.
It is very loud there but I can get a clean sound now by rolling the guitar volume way down to about 4 and then as I open it up I can get crunchy and then overdriven lead tones.
With a Vintage 30 I'm starting to like it...

Re: Liverpool: It's alive...HELP!!
I suggest:
first put the Feedback in 100k down to 47k (with 4k7 to ground), as lower as better for you I guess.
second you could try the trim (47k +100k trim or poti) at V2b, or, to get more bass the switch from above. This one is killer for your "problem".
Best regards

Hans,
Thanks I'll check that out.
I guess most guys wouldn't call all this gain a "problem"! LOL...
