Re: Losing a dog friend.
Well, a bit of an emotional roller coaster ride. He was doing really bad last night and I decided I would put him down today.
This morning the vet called and said they noticed an elevated white blood cell count, which could mean he either has a bacterial infection, or cancer. If it is an infection causing the kidney problems, it's curable.
So I had to bring in a urine sample. Do you know how hard it is to follow a dog around with a mason jar?
Anyway, they've started him on antibiotics, and I get the urine test results tomorrow.
Thanks again for all the support.

Sending positive vibes your way man! That's almost good news and in a situation like this, any chance is worth fighting for.

Re: Losing a dog friend.
Unfortunately, the battle is at a close. He is on his deathbed. My wonderful family is around him to give him comfort. It's time to let him go. To try to save him further would only increase his suffering.
My heart is heavy.
His wonderful spirit and love inspired me to be a better person. That's my definition of a friend.
May you all have the chance to know such a great friend.

Re: Losing a dog friend.
my heart goes out to you and yours, very sad times
you'll see him on the other side though....
like i said before, one of life's biggest injustices is the life span of your very best friend.
i'll be thinking of you and hug my pup and take her on a big walk, let her sniff everything.
again, so sorry for your loss.... (internet hug and pat on back)

Re: Losing a dog friend.
We put him down tonight. My wife and I found a place where we could be there during the process. I was actually glad to see him go to sleep, he was in so much pain.
Nothing will ever fill this big hole in my heart.
I told my kids, if I'm ever in a similar situation, they shouldn't hesitate to put me down.

Thanks to all our four-legged friends for what they bring to our lives.
May the healing begin as this brings your family ever closer together.

Rest assured you've done the right thing for all concerned. The pain of loss will ease with time. Let your memory of him be a source of comfort. I'm so sorry to hear the news of his passing.
Re: Losing a dog friend.
Sorry Lefty. It's a hard thing to go through.
I firmly believe that our dogs will be the first to greet us, tails wagging, as we break through to the other side. I've got a couple of dog friends I'm looking forward to seeing again someday.

Don't you boys know any NICE songs?

Farewell Chuang Tzu.
All living things die, but not all leave behind such big paw prints and so many happy memories. Cherish those and he'll always be with you.
