It’s so never ending it’s comical.
The last 5 years have been a stream of 20 something soundman on the road(guys who grew up with edm and hip hop) telling me “I know you gotta get your tone, but..” with no understanding how guitars and tube equipment work. A huge part of my sound is the quality of the tone. That low end holding together has always been the challenge. I’ve done a decent job over the years but have played enough rigs to know that to really do this you need volume and a powerful amp.
Definitely seeing that everyone need higher wattage speakers too! Man, I’ve opened a Pandora’s box!

I play a lot of dive bar gigs and have no trouble keeping a reasonable volume based on the drums. 75% of the time we only have vocal mics and maybe the kick. Maybe in your situation where everything is miced you could find a balance by pointing the amp in a different direction. It's not something I would really want to do, but it could be a good compromise between stage volume and FOH sound. I get it from the engineer's prospective, as soon as they walk by our beam they think we are way too loud. Also, we all know when they mic us and put us through FOH, our tone is just a bunch of whatever frequencies they have a hard time hearing  Honestly though a decent engineer usually gets a good sound out front and manages to work with the stage volume.
