my last build (a 20 watt 6V6 plexi I used metal film for the pre 1st tube stage input (1M and 68k) then all Carbon Film except for a few high voltage places in the output section, maybe the PI plate. Its a nice quiet behaved amp with decent tone. I'd do it again.

I'm an R&D technician at Zoll Medical and some of the engineers here have talked about a resistance co-efficient with CC resistors, and that they are good for taking fast surges or spikes, one of those or related.

Think the resistors were expensive?
How about $874.43 for a single 0.47 uF 600V capacitor? :D

Granted, silver has some value per ounce. But do you think that cap has enough silver in it at a spot price of 24 dollars an ounce to make up an appreciable percentage of the price?

They are often used in the power supply sections of vintage audio gear for that reason.
