The loop in the Spicer schematic looks interesting, but the signal feeding the loop will have a lot less wave shaping when it gets mixed back in. Two gain stages are missing and I wonder how good/bad that will sound?

No I have not tried this schematic I just collect interesting schematics and layouts for reference.

Alright, I've decided on a course of action. I'm going to install the Granger in a parallel manner using the last schematic idea from Mark, attaching to the split signal after V1. then I'm going to return it after V3, but use a 250K linear pot to 'mix' in the efx to the PI. I think this may work out but I will let you know. Thank you, all of you, for all the ideas. You're a great bunch of guys - anybody tell you that lately?
