Re: Off Standby On switch
How do you hook up a pilot light to this switch?
Re: Off Standby On switch
Install a mini-toggle to reshunt the input jack tip switch back to ground. This would be the same as just backing the cable out of the jack. Mini-mute.Structo wrote:So if you get rid of standby, what would be the best method to mute the amp when taking a break?
Or just turn down the volume pot all the way?
Alternatively, you could lift the PI from ground.

Well Planet Waves has those fancy schmantzy gold plugs with a built-in mute button. All the muso's I know who have tried it - haven't the presence of mind to remember it's there - and panic when it's time to start playing again.Structo wrote:So if you get rid of standby, what would be the best method to mute the amp when taking a break?

Call me silly, but I just turn down the volume on the guitar. Sometimes I have my amp on for 12 hours a day or more. I wish I could say I was practicing all that time but no.
What?

When it's 20 below, or even 40 above, a tube amp makes a nice little dual-purpose space heater.Jana wrote:Call me silly, but I just turn down the volume on the guitar. Sometimes I have my amp on for 12 hours a day or more. I wish I could say I was practicing all that time but no.

Re: Off Standby On switch
I only put in a standby switch if a customer demands it.
If I turn on my Boss tuner, which is at the end of my massive 3-pedal chain
, it mutes the output - I don't know if they all work that way though

Re: Off Standby On switch
For cathode biased amps I use an output tube grid "mute", just switch in a shunt to ground from drive side of the grid stops.Structo wrote:So if you get rid of standby, what would be the best method to mute the amp when taking a break?

Re: Off Standby On switch
Does a tube grid mute do something that a standby switch doesn't? I mean, if you're still putting in a switch somewhere, what is the motivation for this as opposed to a standby? Maybe Im incorrect but Im still going off the assumption that the standby does no harm so if you're putting in any additional switch, why not make it one that COULD help AND mute?

Re: Off Standby On switch
The standby switch is never meant to be used as a mute switch. It should only be used for warmup. Tubes aren't meant to have voltage on their heaters and not the anode for long periods of time otherwise they might be damaged.mrn1ngstr wrote:Does a tube grid mute do something that a standby switch doesn't?
