I hesitated to tell you all this in fear that you will drive up the prices.

Congrats John - you've officially started the ebay toaster wars.
Well done!

There's one on eBay now, but bid starts at $50 and shipping is close to $30.

I just love the look of those. I want to use one for my three channel preamp project.

They are cool looking but be aware that they are very small inside! The OD LXDXH is about 9X7X4 but the ID seems much smaller because of the construction method and the very large radius corners. I was thinking of an external power supply for mine but that seems like it ruins the cool smallness mojo. Part of the top can come off to take a tall tube.

Neither one of those, must have been a different auction. I bid $25 and it went for $31. I bid so early on it I had forgotten about it. By the time I got the outbid notice it was already over.

So how does it look on the inside? Do you think there's room for five 12ax7's and a power transformer?

The local guitar god has asked me if I can do an 845 SE Triode Amp. That would be about 25 Watts of Single End.

May get round to it but I was thinking a kerosene heater could be repurposed with the 845 mounted in place of the burner. That would look cool er!! or hot.

Cheers,
Ian

I think so. It looks big enough for the PT and OT for a champ.

I'm going to try and shoehorn my little EF184 project into it. 1-12AX7 (paralleled), 1-EF184 (noval pentode) and an EL84. I will wire it point-to-point, tubes down, using the top as the enclosure... pretty sure it will fit. I'm going to have a piece if aluminum cut and bent to fit for a chassis, but it looks like that may be the only odd thing about it.

Can't quit thinking about how cool this thing will be when it is finished! It looks so cool!!!

Nice thick cast aluminum on the top and sides. The panels are made from Alcoa Alclad. Ironically the Alcoa plant that it came from is about 11 miles from my house. It seems to be a home coming of sorts. I could be wrong about that but it is still a cool chassis!

If you want, I could put a tape measure in some pics to give you a better idea of size and scale...let me know.

Oh yeah 3 bids... $25, $30 and I got it for $31 + shipping... Hmmm?

Bought this off a guy for $20 today. 10 6EL6's in parallel for up to 1360W RF transmitting power in the 10m, 15m, 20m and 40m ham bands. Uses cheap and easy to get horizontal sweep tubes. Bought it for my dad but I may turn it into my own evil monster if it proves unrepairable.

Shhh! The prices just went up on hot plumming. Thanks.

A long time before this place I found a guy on geocities making tube amps in computer chassis with junk from around the shop. The mouse was used as a channel switch. I thought that was awesome until I saw the frenchy making tubes in his basement.

Microwave amp. Do it. DING!! Hhmmm hot pockets.

Nice score, Cliff! Can't wait to see what evil magic you work into that one. I'll buy just about anything old that's cheap and has/had tubes in it. :)
