Weber kits for Tweed Deluxe and Bassman?

Don't forget that Weber changed cabinet vendors recently and was selling kits without cabs until they found a new cabinet vendor not long ago, so their cabs may be 100% improved.

yes, I heard some good things about their recent cabinets. Sounds like decent kits for the price. I know enough, thanks again for the input. Jelle

Hey Jelle,
If you wind up getting one of these, and if you don't mind, would you post a brief review? I've been thinking about getting one of their 5E3 kits myself.

Sure, I am still in the exploring phase, not sure where I will source my parts yet. I will only use the chassis, cabinet and speakers, maybe transformers. The rest I will provide myself. And it will be a while before I will actually get one, as I have several projects lined up. I hope I will be in time to be helpful. Jelle

I have built both the Weber 5F6A clone and the Weber JAVA kits (as a poor man's Trainwreck Express). Both have parts of very high quality and sound great.
Here is the build thread for my 5F6A clone:

and for my JAVA:

The Weber Tweed chassis that I have used were of high quality 5E3 and 5F1 type.

Re: Weber kits for Tweed Deluxe and Bassman?
I started with three Weber builds.
Each one had resistor failures, various transformer malfunctions and cap issues.
I like their cabs - but there are better cabinet manufacturers out there.
(Mather Cab in Nashville)
Their tweed chassis is stainless steel - on the fence about that one - but they look good and they are quiet and have good ground posts installed.
Speakers seem real good - after break in they sound REAL good.
Wire - no go - buy elsewhere.
I prefer Antique Electronic Supply - tubesandmore.com - for all of the good stuff.
Pots and jacks from Weber were junk also.
Purchase known good products from an established supplier. I still believe that Weber has stuff manufactured with other branded names on the parts and they are still the cheap imported junk.
I have compared their 'Neutrik" jacks to actual Neutrik products and there is a noticeable difference.
Weber never replaced any parts, transformers or made good on the whole deal.
I never went back and probably never will.
I lost my backside on those builds and have found good reliable suppliers since and haven't had any issues.

Weber
I recently bought some speakers, a 5E3 chassis and a 5E3 eyelet board from Weber. The speakers are great. The chassis was a POS. The silkscreen was misaligned and poorly done. I sent it back. As for the eyelet board, the eyelets were all installed backwards, so now I get to drill them out and reinstall new eyelets. No way I'm buying anything but speakers from them in the future. My guess is they are selling cheap Chinese chassis and boards that you can get on Ebay for a lot less money if you don't care about quality. I suggest Mojotone for cabinets, chassis and eyelet boards.

I wouldn't order a cab from Mojo unless you like waiting 2 months without any response and they hadn't even started on the cab so I cancelled my order. And this was their cab of the month.

Took me three months to get my super cabinet from mojo.M Fowler wrote:I wouldn't order a cab from Mojo unless you like waiting 2 months without any response and they hadn't even started on the cab so I cancelled my order. And this was their cab of the month.
They claim they were getting bad tweed from their supplier. Nice cabinet but long wait. I'll build my own.

John Mergili makes the best tweed cabs . Uses the correct construction methods and accurate sizes too. I know he prefers a certain tweed cloth and has shown me the differences. The mojo cloth is too dark.
Mergili innovations . Google him. He is also fast and reasonably priced.

Thanks!!
The one I did came out nice. I used the Weber Chassis and transformers. The new owner loves it. It was a fun little project.
