Hmmm... I know one way to find out would be, for instance, to swap the speakers in the actual Dumble 2x12 with the ones in a clone I'd had built about 10 years ago. Way too many screws and too much work involved, so I am not inclined to do that. However, if anyone in L.A. wants to come over and do all the physical work, let me know and we can do that.crbowman wrote:Gil,
Can you give us some insight as to what you think makes it sound so special?
I understand that the EVM 12S's are really world class speakers and....well.....I guess that helps () but what else is present that sets it apart???
And by the way......thanks!!
I had never tried 12S's before, so I have nothing to compare them to. Let me try this analogy: the Dumble 2x12 makes amps sound like a Fender Twin whereas the other cabinets make the amps sound like Deluxe Reverbs. Also, I have a 1x12 closed back w/EVM 12L Classic reissue which I used on gigs because it helps manage stage volume by not spilling any sound on the back side. That particular cabinet sounds like a transistor radio compared to the 2x12.
The volume and "bigness" of the sound is the most radical difference.
