Hello everyone, this is my first post to this forum. I have been lurking here for awhile, absorbing (or trying to) so much cool info on amp building and I noticed this Zappa thread and just had to respond to it. By the way, I would like to thank Dogears, and Norm and Bob Et. Al. for all of their contributions.

Ok, I am a hard core Zappa fan. I own virtually everything he ever released and listen to about 90% of it regularly. I know his music is not for everyone, but there are more than just a couple of titles worth getting to know even if you are not a Zappa freak like me.

Ice, if you like Apostrophe and Overnite, You really should have One size fits all. Many feel it's his masterpiece. Check out the solo on Inca Roads, it ( The solo) was lifted from a concert he performed in Helsinki around '74 . AT that time he was playing through a super lead plexi I think. There are also some tracks on that disk he does some creative things with a fretless electric guitar, a must have believe me.

Roxy abd Elewhere is also a pretty good album, that features the '74 band too, as does the first disk of You can't do that on stage anymore vol. 2, which I highly recommend.

Joe's Garage is interesting, every track on that collection was written around guitar solos excerpted from live performances.

If you like Jazzish stuff, Hot Rats, Waka Jawaka and the Grand Wazoo won't disappoint.

Freak Out - first Rock Double album, first concept type album, influenced The Beatles, Brian Wilson etc.

Shut Up and Play Your Guitar - 3Lps worth of just Guitar solos. Not for everyone, but you can't judge it until you listen to it enough to become familiar with it. If you do, you will not think of guitar playing the same.

I'll stop, I don't want this to be too long.

Frank wasn't doing battle with god, just with the evil forces that try to control us in his name. Anyone who thinks that the score is 1 nothing god must not realize that we're all stone dead forever, baby. That's cool I geuss. But if you want to really like music and want to expand the way you think about it, then you owe it to yourself to be exposed to some of FZ's work.

the amps zappa used im pretty sure were marshall plexi's, carvins, and acoustic amplifiers. me and my roomate could be some of the biggest zappa fans here at Berklee and maybe even the world, owning 55 or so of his albums, and just about every book he wrote, gotta love him!

Those are the amps I see in the YouTube clips so I'm compelled to agree with you. I seem to remember an old Guitar Player collum where Frank said he'd gotten back into the 100 watt plexis again. I think it was the string driving quality he especially liked. I could be FOS in the magazine source.I miss Frank everyday too. Trance-Fusion is a gemmmm.

I saw him at San Diego State open air. We were down in front on his side, at that time he was definitely playing through a Marshall. The soundman must have been out when Frank lit it up. He blasted the whole dang place outta their seats. He just laughed and kept on wailing. One of the greatest shows I ever seen. I'm on a quest for videos now. Peace out.

I went through a severe Zappa phase during college...wrote several papers on him and used to dissect his music for theory class. Wore out my cassette of Baby Snakes (if you want to see Bozzio really rip it up, check out the 3-hr movie). Used to have a bunch of records. One of my early favs was "Pojama People" on OSFA and that nasally tone he'd get with the wah in the halfway position. Used to play along with it all the time with my brother's morley power wah when i was like 14 or 15. Pick up his autobiography if you haven't read it...good stuff:
