So far I am digging the new 100w high plate, Skyline, ODS.

If I was adventurous like I was with my D'lite I would be throwing all kinds of parts at it just to see what it does but I am getting complacent in my old age.

I would like to build a #40 50w combo next.

No, I have built several in a similar fashion. Also built a non-HRM style with 150K/120K on Clean and OD with no V1B loop, the preamp was wired like a bluesmaster with a larger slope resistor. Similar is feel to a 183 style but better top end.

Actually the amp (one of my personal amps) started like as a Ripper circuit. I worked and worked on it trying to get a reasonable overdrive. Just wasn't happening so I started evolving it. Tried one of the Komet circuits and it was better, but still not my thing, then it tweaked into a Trainwreck style and then finally to the 150K/120K arrangement.

Today that amp is a 70's style with switchable front end preamp. It is like my grail amp (for that tone) these days. But the 150K/120K was really nice.

I really like my low plate Skyline amp with internal loop, it's more raw and emotional sounding than the highplates and it works well with strats.

And the HRM is cool too. The OD is really focussed and in a band it's playing with thick milkshake laserbeam tones. I like this one a lot with teles and humbucker guitars.

I agree on the Bluesmaster, they require a fair amount of tweaking to get them to sound right. The Ripper is one I personally like too. I'm revisiting the different 70's and transition variants to see which one I like best of those.

...1. 70's Style with 12AT7. They are just fun to play... harmonics up the whazoo.

AT7s in just V2, or both V1 and V2? I've tried it in V2 alone, and I have to say it sounded really good! Very different, but good.

V3 only. They really are lively to the touch. Not as focussed as a hi-plate non-HRM. My son says the tone is more raw.

Wait...so in the PI? Don't you lose a lot of volume, or do you just have to crank the MV?

The PI is not that sensitive to volume when a lower gain tube is inserted. The volume goes down a little, but this can easily be compensated with the MV. Besides, there is no LNFB on V1b in these amps that would otherwise reduce the volume a bit.

Regarding tweaking the Bluesmaster, do you mean tweaking the pots or do you mean changing circuit values?

I find there are things I'd do to a Dumble style amp that would drastically move it away from the signature Dumble sound. Take the "Modern Eagle mod" I'd be more inclined to change the bass cap to 0.047uF too so I can get the mids where I want them, but that's me.
