Hammer/Mallet trumps gloves!

Gloves can be the cause of injuries as well as protection when working in
close to spinning objects.

I once had a miniscule shard of plate glass go strait into the left thumb's
joint between the two flanges[sp?]. I could not play guitar without aggravating that sucker. It hurt like an icepick stab. When I tried to pull it
out my tweezers would just "click" and never grip the intruding vitreo. It
was clear and the fucker would never stand out against sinew of my thumb.
I carved a hole you could get an echo out of before I finally got beneath
the shard and pulled it.

Heal quickly and be thankful you didn't mash that digit any worse.
