I have played with systems like this in the past. I've used several amps fed from a stereo time unit, like a TC chorus or Boss DD. I have also gone the full route of powered speakers and mixer. Stereo is nice but usually doesn't translate very well to the audience. In fact, most PAs we use are mono. It sounds good on stage but only when you can position yourself in the magic triangle. FWIW, I settled on a Voodoo Labs Ground Control, with all my effects (voodoo vibe for vibrato and tremolo, mojo vibe, OCD, analogman SD10, keeley blues driver, octavia, mooger fooger ring mod, and CLS222) in a rack switched by an RG16. I have the time based effects in a PARALLEL loop of my Fuchs. The key is the parallel loop. EVERY device I put in the series loop screws the tone in some way. With a parallel loop, I get the straight amp tone mixed with the time based tone. I hear NO tone loss with the parallel loop and I'm really happy with this setup.

Another way to do it is using an old fender four input (1 & 2 or hi/low) dual channel amp (normal & reverb) plug into input 1 with the guitar and run a cord from the same channels input 2 to the effects unit input, left effects output goes to input 1 on the second channel on the same amp, and right effects output goes to a second amp.

This way you get the stereo effect and a parallel dry with the straight guitar input that can be blended using only two amplifiers, and without the need for a loop.

Also pre-levels and tone settings can be different for each "channel" as needed if the effects need brightening up or more or less gain.
