Gilmour EMG single coils w/mid boost
Anyone ever try this set-up thru their Dumblish ampleefier?? My main guitar is a 98 PRS custom w/an ALDER body! The bridge HFS works very well with all the builds i`ve done. What gets me is that if you go listen to that Dumble clip at Steelbender.com, w/Jason playing a STRAT, it absolutely ROARS w/PAB on.... His guitar looked STOCK, maybe not?? That amp IS a later Skyliner/HRM amp according to a very well known amp builder here in NC.

Why not ask Jason?? I could call or email him.....
Fwiw, you can set the HRM amps to roar with single coils.... But you knew that

Hey, thanks for pointing out that clip. I have been wanting to hear the dumble demondstrated with a strat.
I played with emgs for many years in a strat. Due to the active electronics you get a higher output that allows you to overdrive amps, and still get a good strat tone. I like the EMG-SA, the EMG-S was too bright in the upper midrange for my ears.
The downside of the EMGs is you've got to find a place to put the battery. If you put it in the main control cavity you've got to remove the pickguard to replace it. I flipped the otuput jack housing and stuck it in there.
The other downside is with the actives, you don't get the same interaction with certain pedals which could be good or bad. I never found the magic in Fuzz Faces until I tried it with standard passive single coils.
EMG's do seem to be less susceptible to noise. Since switching back to passive single coils I still haven't gotten used to the hum. I'm still working on better cavity shielding.

That's my basic guitar. I've got the mid-cut thing too. You need it to get a plinkier truer strat tone.

AHH don`t wanna bother him, just wondering if that set-up was good to another set of ears! lol!! Dogears, you use a variac with your amp? I`m starting to like mine variaced alot. From what i`ve heard that Dumble went back to HAD for 6L6`s, and to be honest, can`t blame him, my best build was 60`s twin trannies w/80`s circuit. Used phillips 7581`s to ALOT of peoples shuck and awe maybe, but they sounded great ta me! lol! I could really pushem hard, a recent build with a Traynor YBA-4 using EL-34 GT Mullard copies did turn out heavenly tho! That IRON is sweet!! my New Sensor 100 watt Marshall OT, has been tuff to dial in. My guess is it it a REAL HI headroom trannie, doesn`t do anything till its freakin CRANKED!! lol! Heard anything @ the Weber LOW headroom Marshall OT trannie? jpdogears wrote:Why not ask Jason?? I could call or email him.....
