Do you guys find any of that EL84 fizz when the amp is cranked or is that pretty much eliminated with kind of design?

I only get that from not setting my pedal properly...if I have any real gain coming off of the pedal I get a high pitched fizz....knock the gain off and push the boost(level) and it fattens up considerably....I humbly suggest the only way to know,is to play one

Ok, that's very interesting, thanks Sirius. I LOVE the sound Brian May gets out of those stressed Voxs using a treble booster. Very musical and pure sound. I love the harmonic richness and that singing quality.

.As far as the transformers go, Ms 25/25uf has the Edcore’s and Ms 25/1uf had the Heyboer’s and both used the spect’d Hammond chokes.

Which transformer set did Lemon put in yours? The 280-0-280 (Heyboer?) or the Edcore 245-0-245?? I think Allyn used higher B+ in his.

I think RJ built his OT to the A470 specs right? A Heyboer with the 470 mod?

I've used the Edcore 245 and the Heyboer 265. I can't tell much difference except price. RJ's getting some other PTs at different voltages also. I just got in the Ed.285 for my KT66/EL34 build.

You didn't notice a difference in volume with the 245 Edcore vs the 265 Heyboer? How about the level at which the gain starts to kick in was that also very close ratio?

I'm sure that Allynmey went with 300v Heyboer and I would like to know how that worked out.

If no difference in noticible and useable power level then I will not even attempt to build another as I love my Rocket no complaints from this guy. Do you agree that the Liverpool is louder though, because mine is.

To be honest we were concentrating on tone more than volume or where the breakup started. For us volume is not concern, there is plenty of it just twist the knob. As far as breakup/distortion goes thats pretty much up to the builder and the player. Play with changing some components in the pre-amp section to tailor it to your style. Start with changing the plate resister on V1 up and done and listen to what it does.

Is the edcor one of their stock items? I haven't seen anything on their site with a 5V tap...I've been impressed with the edcor stuff I've used so far.

Looking for a rocket power tranny to try with some old Sansui 5K 7591 PP iron.

No. It is a custom wind for RJ. I think they gave him his own part number for it.

RJ gets a good price break on them that he passes along. Best to contact him. I think he has a few sets ready to go.

They must have just added those in the last week or so!

They've really expanded their offerings the last few years. I've been using their open frame trannies for single ended stuff for a while now and step-ups for MC phono, great sound at a great price.

I may have to get some stuff custom wound soon (SE with multiple secondaries and some power trannies) my junk box stash is almost used up. They are really reasonalble, seems like they price based on materials costs and winding complexity, none of that vintage vibe or "mojo" crap.

I think rj said Edcor was indeed expanding and he probably has his own line card for custom trannies. They have a good product I think and nice that we have more choices. Can't beat tonesluts Heyboer trannies either very high quality and good price.
