Bias Test Points

Post by Bruciep07 »

Does anyone have a source for good quality bias test points? I've bought 5 or 6 different types and they're all a little cheesy in one way or another. They're either too bulky or too flimsy, all but one set had plastic threads which are hard to get tight without worrying about them stripping. I'd like to find a nice small test point socket with a metal body and insulated conductor...

you can use insulated banana jacks or tip jacks.
Allied carries "standard metal-clad" and "insulated metal-clad military type"
tip jacks.

I use those:
Red:
http://www.mouser.com/Search/ProductDet ... 105-0252-1
Black:

They have a metal body. They’re solderless, but I pass my 1 ohm resistors through the termination holes and I solder them.

Thanks for the replies guys, it seams "tip jack" is the term I've been lacking (somehow) to search for, I found the Abbatron Mil spec ones at Allied, and the Emerson ones from mouser are pretty much the same thing, so now it just depends on who I need to order a bunch of stuff from, mouser or Allied... :D

Thanks, those are higher quality than the ones I put in my D'Lite.

One time I was checking the bias and I walked by and bumped the red probe while it was inserted in the jack.

Broke the probe clean off at the jack. I tried everything to get that piece out of there and finally just had to replace the jack.
Luckily my local parts house that doesn't have that great of inventory had the cheap plastic ones. :D

I've gotten pretty good at melting those cheap plastic ones so that the metal part of the plug aims in a different direction each time i solder one in. A 600deg iron + plastic plug = :x
