This is the very reason why we should pay the few bucks extra and buy from a "Mom and Pop" music store instead of the big box or internet seller.
The local shops deal in smaller numbers but almost without exception they will make sure that their stock is set up properly before the customer gets his hands on it. They have to make every sale count. They don't want the local guitar guru spouting all over town about how the nrw guitar from company "X" it a piece of @@@@.
Some few of the big box stores have employees who take the time and trouble to set the inventory up but others are either too busy otherwise or just have the attitude of "Why bother?".

I bought a pair of shoes from a drug dealer the other day. I dunno what he laced them with but I’ve been tripping all day,
Re: Gibson ES339
That's good when it's true, LeeMo, but most of the local "mom and pop" shops in this region don't Know guitars, they just sell 'em - right next to the plastic clarinets and the electronic keyboards.

Re: Gibson ES339
LeeMo good call on your part......to a point......Gibson has made it almost impossible for the Mom/Pop Stores to carry their products. So do we not buy the Gibson and buy the Fender? There was a LMS here in Tulsa.....that setup every guitar on the floor and every weekend they had at least one luthier and sometimes 2 available to anyone that had bought a guitar from them and brought it in for any service. FREE....... You want the strings changed.....bring it in....check the setup...bring it in.......file the nut..... bring it in......Hell you just want to talk guitars.....come on in. Thats were I bought everything I could......except Gibson. They couldn't afford to buy the amount of inventory Gibson required, even though they had been a Gibson dealer at one time and had a good following.
They're gone now, ran out by the big box. Price.......except now big box has a rule of not dealing on price any more.....huh go figure..........

Re: Gibson ES339
Finally got to play a 339 and a 335 in the same room ....same time. Both were very nice this time. The 339 was a burst and the 335 was a faded, the 339 was gorgeous....... but I liked the way the 335 sounded and played better. But that's just me and I don't know crap!!!!!!

I've got a 90' lucille in red that I just adore. Sings like an angel, plays real fine, give to me by my brother who bought it new.
Is it true that some time back Gibson demanded nearly double the turnover of music stores of they're guitars to keep they're ability to even buy from Gibson? I also heard a rumor that the custom shop will not sell you a custom guitar, I mean you give them specs or changes to a model or a color change or something of that nature not something totally off the wall. Is that true? And since I'm gibson venting, does anyone else think that limited reverse flying V looks like a boat anchor?
