My dad, a WWII vet, refused to use his benefits until he got cancer at age 73. He told me he did not want to burden the government (taxpayers). In the mid 90's he ended up in the VA hospital in Durham, NC. Even though it was loud and crowded, he got excellent medical care from the doctors, many from Duke who were in attendance. Hats off to you, sir. Hopefully more people like you will find their way into public service.
I am glad your father received good care. I am aware of news reports of less than good care from some VA hospitals, but that is not the normal.
I am blessed to work with other employes that care about the veterans and their dependents and a lot of them are veterans themselves.
Got a survey today about do I think the government should decrease spending? Now I don't feel the government should decrease spending but they sure as heck should keep the money in this country and invest in the infra-structure of America.
I would like to say that taking care of veterans is one of the things that government MUST do, and do well.
My primary issue with our government is that we are, in my opinion, FAR overreaching beyond the constitutional charter of our government, and FAR beyond what is good for us as a country and as individual citizens with FAR too many government programs and FAR too much of the citizen's money. Entitlements, as they currently exist, will kill this country. Other civilizations are on the rise - and we are not.
