Rocket Trannies have shipped

Post by RJ Guitars »

Hello Forum,

For those interested in the Heyboer A-470 MOD, HTS-8093-1 output transformer, I received the shipping notice from Heyboer today indicating they have been shipped to me and are expected here within the next 2 days. I am expecting to hear similar news on the power transformers at any time if you wanted one of those also.

This is the transformer that we believe is "The Output Transformer" used in at least one original Rocket amp.

I have a dozen of these coming and will make them available to you at cost for as long as they last.

My cost is $89.47 each including shipping to me. I looked at UPS costs and the average cost for domestic UPS looks like $12.00. Two-day domestic is $18 and USPS looks like $10. Bank checks or please add $1.50 for PAYPAL... It's no profit but also looking for no loss as well.

I don't get any discount on the Hammond chokes so I'm not offering any of those for now.

Email me for PAYPAL or payment info. Thanks to those guys who helped me set this up!

Trasnformers are in my garage...

Post by RJ Guitars »

Hello Guys,

I have a lot of iron in my garage now, both the output and the power trannies are in. I've had several of you contact me about setting aside a single or both and that has been done.

The power tranny has an identical footprint to the Toneslut Tranny - just runs at a slightly less voltage - 280-250-0-250-280. Does anyone know - is that the Pacific transformer specifications?

The 8093 Mod 470 has a slightly different footprint than the Toneslut (typical Express or Liverpool) transformer. I did Retrofit one to one of my original Hybrid Roc-Kit chassis' and it went well. Haven't finished the amp yet though.

If you haven't read the info from Derek Ferwerda on how good the Rocket amps sounds, I recommend taking a look at that thread... it should inspire you toward a quest for Rocket tone.

Is there a 200V Rocket??

Post by RJ Guitars »

Hello Guys,

I opened up all the boxes from Heyboer today and put everything into inventory. As I looked at the power trannies something caught my eye... look at the attached photo and see if you see it too.

Allyn,

I thought maybe I had stumbled onto a well guarded Rocket secret or something. When I talked with Phil at Heyboer he said 250 & 280 so this was a surprise to me... The part number appears correct so something is a bit odd.

Tomorrow I'll power one up and take a voltage reading with a small load on the secondaries and verify what's up.

thanks

122V Going in gives me 286V and 253V on the secondaries (1 Meg Load)... so no mystery anymore, no well guarded secret, just a misprint back at the factory... Dang and I was sure my conspiracy theory was true!

RJ / Allyn / whomever knows-

I didn't see it posted, so I'll ask- which voltage taps do you use- 250 or 280?? My guess is 250, but I am not certain at all.

Thanks,

Ron

Ron - I still consider myself a student on the Rocket and although I think you're right about the 250 tap - I defer to Allyn.

both the power and the output are the units i originally had made at heyboer. my idea with this particular dual hv sec was really for my own amp building usage---so i could build either a lower voltage ac30 amp (the rocket) or a higher/"norm" ac30 amp. so it was really just for my own utility. the outputs are a slightly modded a470 based on dave funk's comments about what k.f. used in this amp. rh

Ken used the 250V tap. that's for use with the 50 Ohm Cathode Res. I know a guy that changed taps on his Rocket (real) to 280 and switched to 68 Ohms to get more "Girth" He likes it. He also has 2 rockets :?

Power transformers - the whole batch is gone (I'm waiting on a couple checks. I'll re-post if anyone decides not to buy)

Output transformers - 2 left

This is for Dyna clone A470 so I think the output side colors would be good.
