Replacing resistive material in an alpha pot

Post by benoit »

In my build I Accidentally stripped out the threads on the 250k-A pot for preamp gain. I have a 2.5k pot I'm never going to use and I was thinking I'd like to try to use that body with the resistive part from the 250k pot so I don't have to place the world's smallest mouser order. Is there any way to do this?

Pots can be dismantled by bending the tabs. If it fits the same it should be no problem. Are they the same brand and body size?
If it says "Vintage" on it, -it isn't.

Benoit;

I did a thread on the D side where I replaced the conductive board in common 24mm Alpha pots. It is pretty easy. Here's the link:

That was exactly what I needed. Thanks! I had the pots apart, just didn't have the balls to try to rip off the plastic part til you explained how you did it. Everything is fine now, crisis averted.

You might check out the 'Secret Life of Pots' over at Geofex. Click on Tech Tips on the left side of the page, then look for The Secret Life of Pots under the Parts section.

The only problem I have had in doing this is those tabs are pretty weak after getting bent back and forth, if not careful they will snap off.

Don't let that smoke out!
