All pots seems to have the value they should except the 4k7 which seems to be a tad low (around 4k4 installed in the circuit)
changing pots: presence from 4k7 to 5k & mid from 22 to

my express has a 4k7 presence pot and a 22k mid pot. should I bother changing them to 5k and 25k respectively?

Re: changing pots: presence from 4k7 to 5k & mid from 22 to
another question: my express has ceramic tube sockets - can this contribute to microfonics in the first gain stages?
also, I've been trying different output tubes. first a pair of big old american 6ca7s, then a xf2 mixed with a xf4 and then a pair of rtf/siemens.
the mullards had the least clean headroom - the bias was 5-6ma apart. the 6ca7s sound bright and a bit hard. I prefer the RTFs now. I don't dare to bias any of these at -30v at pin 5 because then the bias would be way high on pin 1 and 8. with the RTFs I prefer 41ma over 48ma - it is a little cleaner and not overly thick.
I ended up with a tungsram ecc83 in v1 a old german ecc83 in v2 and a mullard ecc81 in v3. a nos 5751 and a new 12ay7 both sounded nice in v1 and v2.
ecc81s do sound to hard in v1 and v2

Got some clips?
I'm still finding tubes for my Rocket...everything I have seems to have issues...either that, or the Rocket I picked up has issues...

Wow! I love your vocalist! Started off sounding sorta Ann Wilson and as the song progressed went more Geddy Lee!Roe wrote:I got a old clip with ecc81s and 6ca7 - it sounds to hard http://snotpope.com/downloads/20_Bones/SissyPig.mp3:
