Express Cabinets

Post by strato17 »

Does anyone here sell cabinets for an express head? I thought about building one, but I am not much of a wood worker.

Thanks!

Been there, done that but with a caveat:

I build pine boxes covered with tolex, I'm covering a couple more today. If you want a pine head covered in tolex then I'm your man.

I can build pretty cherry cabinets however I can't justify the time involved. That's the caveat. We have another product we make at our shop (another precision woodworking specialty) that we can make a grand on in the same time it takes to build a cherry Trainwreck cabinet.

Check out the Drawer Cab that I mention in my build guide- it's so damn easy to put together...

You know how to use a rubber mallet and wood glue?? It's that easy. Making the front panel is the only thing that takes any woodworking... I can show you how if you like....

Ron, I know you're proud of your drawer cabinet but... mine is all assembled with roundover and ready to go for a nice price. I could probably send them out assembled and uncovered for a just a little more than an unassembled drawer, that's with the front panel fitted to clear 'Wreck transformers.

Support your local amp builder. The drawer guys will do just fine without our business.

Actually, I'm not that proud of it...it doesn't look that great...

It only cost like $75 to make and I don't care if I ding it...

That said, I did not know about your cabs.. do you do stain grade cabs too??

If I can buy it, I will.... I just couldn't swing $400 for one of Larry's cabs after the cost of the amp.... Much as I would love one.

I've done stain grade cabs. They're time consuming and a hard sell for the most part. It's easier to make a pine cab, it still gets marked up by handling but it all gets covered. The tedious part for me is the fine detail sanding and of course the finish.

I could of course build a perfect cherry cabinet, time permitting. I'll say this, though... Ken Fischer obviously never intended these to be mass produced amps. There are attractive and durable cabinets then there are Trainwreck cabinets. Gigging with one is like bringing fine furniture to the beach.

Larry, Larry mo marry fee fie foe farry... Larr(eeee!)!

You are Larry, right?

It's pretty. Time permitting I'll bang out some killer cabs, for now like I said I can make a grand in the same time it takes you to build one of those. I have a pretty good idea what you have into it because I know what I'd have into it.

Why don't you start a thread and post some pictures of your past projects. I would like to see what you have done.

Jeez Larry.... you do some fine work.....

One day I'll be able to get one of your cabs... but as we discussed, it's just more than I can swing now... I'm getting ready to buy a house, so If I got one of yours, I think the old lady would just freak... :?

Yeah Eric, I would love to see some pics of your work...

After a while it's all repetitions on a theme, kinda like rock 'n' roll, no? I don't bother to take pictures of every one of them.

I just realized that you can't see the pics if you're not logged in.
