Unclear what level of control the current tech team has. It is definitely limited for reasons unknown and seemingly unreasonably.

That said, there are versions of the phpBB foundation stack with controls to apply limitations to "visitors". Perhaps some investigation opens the potential to mitigate?

Besides that, it’s making multiple post of just one post.

I get these errors every time I click on a different thread on this forum. Or anything I click or tic however people say it.

I notice the "guest" count is through the roof when the "too many requests" happened.

I don't know if there are simply that many IP's browsing the site without signing in, or perhaps the board software has bug that keeps the guest count too high and loads up the server software.

It's bots or the like spamming/DDoS'ing the site or hosting provider. I've suggested the owner of the domain/site should consider moving to a different hosting solution many times in the past but he's not interested. It's a shared hosting setup, so not even on it's own 'host' but instead multiple other sites all on the same host. that means if even one of the sites is something someone is aggressively DDoS'ing, everyone is impacted. The hosting provider SHOULD have tools to absorb/block/control DDoS but obviously they don't. That or the shared setup only allows X connections per Y time and the bots make the ampgarage exceed that regularly. Not much us Admin's can do, i only have control over the software and database basically. there 'might' be some tricks I could try at the phpbb level, but honestly, that's just a bandaid and bots, if they find they're blocked, just use a different path, and the only real fix for that is at the network layer, not the host layer.

I could play whackamole and block a specific range and 10 minutes later they'd just move to a different network. I've done that in the past in my job and it's a massive waste of time.

It's probably AI bots constantly going through the forum posts. I have the same problem on my server and I had to block all IP ranges from China and Singapore to get rid of them.
