Fender Tweed Deluxed 5A3 thru 5E3 and Tween Tremoluxes wired the 1st stage coupling cap into the wiper of the volume pot. Fender subsequently discontinued this and wired pots "normally" as voltage dividers where the output is taken of the wiper. Wiring the input to the wiper creates a naroow taper and especially as most commonly avalable pots (CTS, Alpha) have a notch in the taper. I believe most 1M audio taper pots are the C taper which is 5% resistance at 50% turn of the pot. An A taper is 10% at 50%.
For the '57 Custom Deluxe hand-wired reissue Fender advertised "Improved volume pot tapers on both channels" Does anyone know this part number and/or who makes this pot if in fact it is an even shallower logrithmetic taper than a C audio taper?
Has anyone used Tocos pots in 5E3 builds? Or can recommend other brands that have a very slow log taper and no notich?
