RCA 12AX7A

Post by Guy77 »

Hi everyone. I picked up a few RCA 12AX7A tubes and wondered if anyone would know which decade/years they would have been made.

I attached a pic of one with its box. The plates are actually grey , its the camera that made them darker.
I was surprised to see the box printed with Montreal, Canada.
The 2 letters stamped on the tubes are PJ (not sure what that means) and the other side says 12AX7A.
Love the look of these old tube boxes! I could see people just wanting to collect the empty boxes.

Thanks
Guy

Not surprised as it’s pretty old.

I think I got that link/ info from the now defunct Triode electronics site.

Thanks everyone! Thats a cool looking building! Based on the fact that the building was still operational until about 1973 and the fact that the letter P is written on my tube, it would appear my tube was made in 1970.

Here is the article I found that describes the letter codes for RCA tubes.

I've got a couple old RCA's that I really like. Two of them are 70's and have the orange logo. I have one from the 50's, though, and it has similar white silkscreen lettering. No idea what 60's RCA look like, so my uneducated guess puts it in 50's/60's era. I think?
I know it's only rock and roll, but I like it!
