I've read that Matchless addressed the bass issue with the Cobra, King Cobra and Phoenix. I wonder if schematics are available for them?

Maybe it's my guitars or cabs? Even when I turn down the gain (volume) on either channel, as it cleans up, it seems bland to me. No chime or sparkle.

Here's what I've changed so far from the stock circuit -
1. PI input caps from 0.01uF to 0.0047uF.
2. PI output caps from 0.047uF to 0.022uF.
3. 1st channel bypass cap from 25uF to 1uF.
1 is too much. try 1nf or 1.5nf
2 try 15nf or 10nf (as used in the ac30/4!)
3 1 uf seems to low!

I remember the first time I played through a matchless 30 combo. It had a green back thread was lightly done and a H30 with no dope or vis-à-vis. Anyway the sound was beautiful clean with a touch sensitive great topend. My thoughts about bass flabby is the pickups and the output transformer. Original Gibson pickups were a light 7.2 to 7.8k wind and the magnets are important as far as type.alnico 2 vs 5. The output transformer is really important for that symbiotic singing quality. Sorry these are all adjectives with no real meaning but how do you describe tone. I have an ac30 head from 1963. It has a different bass compared to a marshall but works great with PAF in my Gibson. I’ve heard Lollar imperal pickups have that quality.

Also what about something like an EP booster for extra gain and some roll off in bass range
