Boy, would I like to have a mini tack welder like he had :? I couldn't tell if his worked off a transformer or capacitors.
The tack welder was one of my favorite parts! That video was absolutely amazing. The patience and skill.

On his web site:

You can find a detailed discussion of the tack welder. The Google translation is not always easy to follow, but it seems to be transformer based, with electronic control of the duration and intensity of current. Proper clamping pressure was a significant component to determine  This may be ROCKET SCIENCE 8)

Correct me if I'm wrong but an iPod has more memory than the computer that landed us on the moon.

I can't believe that he had the audacity to use "store bought" caps in his radio. You need the vintage "hand made" ones to get the real tone.

That's the understatement of the year. Probably several orders of magnitude more. Wasn't it sometime in the 80s that bill gates or someone said we'd only ever need 256k of memory? My ipod has more than 300000 times more (80g).

I was referring to Benoit's call about "Bill Gate or someone"

Most D.I.Y.ers are a different breed.
Money is usually not the bottom line...if i may say so...huh...myself.
Your question is valid...my guest is that they probably do not sell any.
Personnal use i would think.

Twang, I knew what you meant, and I'm sure those ham operators in France had no thought of selling any tubes, but can you imagine how much it would cost if you asked a person with appropriate talents to make you some tubes :?
Please, forgive the run-on sentence

Machine shop? Pretty much, I have mini mill, mini lathe, 2 bandsaws, 3 drill presses, a 48 inch box and pan brake, a light duty brake, table saw, numerous hand held power tools, 2 table routers, another hand held router, etc, etc . I make many of my own parts, all my own chassis, cabinets, brackets, mounts, and lots of other stuff. It is a matter of necessiity when you are basically poor  .

I haven't gone to making my own components, but those hand made capacitors sound interesting. I have wound my own humbucking pickups on a jig I run in the minilathe, I have one in one of my favorite guitars I play all the time. Winding pickups isn't all that hard, very tedious and delicate stuff that 42 gauge enamel wire, though.
