ODS Pedal Parts
Time to build a pedal for my 183 circuit. I'm using this panel mount 5 pin DIN on the amp: mouser 161-0005-E
Can anyone tell me a part number for the male jack that goes with this? While we're at it, what cable, footswitch box, and LEDs do you like for your pedal?
Thanks so much!

A standard midi cable will work with that jack, I believe. For the box, many people have adapted the Marshall footswitch boxes sold by AES. I added a DIN jack to mine so the cable can be detached.

I just tried a midi cable and it doesn't fit.
Thanks for the tip on the Marshall pedal.

Hmm, that's odd. 5-pin DIN with all 5 in 180 degrees is standard. Is that what your jack looks like?

Re: ODS Pedal Parts
that mouser part is a 5 pin 180 deg socket. As Martin said a midi cable should fit.
is your socket 180deg?
I use hammond FX pedal enclosures for my foot switches, LED's? use whatever you fancy, be aware that the super bright ones can bee seen from space!!!!!
I use start quad cable for my footswitches. it has 4 conductors and a shield, so perfect for the 5 pin DIN

Re: ODS Pedal Parts
I was wrong. The cable I tried had only 4 pins. It looked like a midi cable but was not. Just tried a real midi cable and it worked. Thanks for the tip!

My last build uses a 1950a box (small!) as a foot switch. PAB and OD can be linked with a switch, so PAB can be automatically switched on when OD is engaged. I think this can be done with a standard MIDI cable setup like Dumble uses. I use a standard stereo jack for switching though (relay and led series like Two Rock does instead of parallel like Dumble). Works just as good, just need to use a relay that draws less than 20mA, otherwise the LEDs will burn.

The pedal turned out great using a Hammond box and midi cable but with a little drama along the way. Apparently the midi spec only uses 3 of the 5 pins. I had two ancient midi cables. One cable did not connect the unused pins. The other cable had the unused pins wired to ground! This was harder to track down then it should have been. Anyway, the lesson here is: Make sure you buy a midi cable with all pins connected correctly.

As bad as that sounds it would have been better than rabbit hole I went down chasing this somewhat simple problem.norburybrook wrote: ↑Wed Apr 29, 2020 9:13 am you've missed out on the deep joy of soldering a midi cable........ my favourite .....NOT.....

I'm looking for a sloped blank box that could house 4-5 switches.... without buying a original Fender or Marshal pedal....
Any tips??

Check out Hammond boxes at Mouser. Here's one I found with a quick search. It's pricey but there are many.

Re: ODS Pedal Parts
Thanks for reply.... I know of those, but aren't they rather flimsy for a pedal? Anyone really used those for pedals?
