UPS dropped off a new toy today.

It's a bit rough but it works! I am setting up my worksapce in the new house and I never had a scope set up. I've had a scope for a while just not set up AND I never had a generator and a dummy load to use it with anyway. Now all I need to do is build a dummy load.
Here is the generator puting a 1M sine wave signal into my scope

Re: New toy!
you are a lucky man indeed...
I'll have one too...one of these days...have some researching to do as to how they work and which one to get first but...

Re: New toy!
They really go hand in hand along with a dummy load. The Generator produces an audio signal that you introduce into your amp. (Obviously this is specific to amplifiers) Then using the scope you trace that signal (generally a perfect sine wave) through the amp until you find the spot where the sine wave is distorted/alterred. The dummy load is so you don't have to hear the annoying generated signal coming out of your speaker and/or damage your speaker in the process! So you see that you really need all 3. You can get away with just the scope though. There is some software you can get that will function as the tone generator. Just search "Signal Generator" at eBay and you'll find it! Dummy loads are easy to build. There is a great artical on dummy loads at Randall Aiken's site with schems to build a couple different designs. It's in the Advanced Tech info area.
Re: New toy!
i have the dummy load already.
Will eventually jump in... but will research like crazy first...
Big part of the fun for me is the research phase...
Got all my woodworking/metal tools, parts, trannies, tubes, Chris Haedt's calibrated mutual conductance tube tester (i'm really fortunate to have had Chris calibrated my Sencore M140).
My fiance and 12 year old are real supportive...they've rather have me building amp than playing it...
