Re: Bruno Cowtipper Gut Shots
Oh yeah, I want Bruno pics. That way I can reverse engineer a Cowtipper, it's an expensive amp so it must be worth cloning.
Except that it's a copy of a Fender reverb which would make mine a clone of a clone.

I'd guess he looks at this board and took some of the comments to heart. This amp is a far cry from those we first saw. But still, big money for a Fender copy.

Tag over at TGP posted another gut shot of a CT35 next to this pic. It looks like a cleaner build....at least a little cleaner anyway. Tag pulled it down for some reason BUT someone quoted him and it's stil up for the time being. I saved it on my hard drive. Get it while you can.

I agree with that one person, looks like a DRZ build maybe not quite as nice. Just looks a bit homebrew to me, I have seen a lot cleaner builds here it seems

Re: Bruno Cowtipper Gut Shots
If I was in the market for a Fender type amp I'd buy an Allen. Dave Allen doesn't hype his stuff shamelessly like, umm, OTHER amp builders I could mention. YEAH, an Allen is "inspired" by classic Fender designs except the quality SMOKES vintage amps... you get cool features like a stainless steel chassis, bias jacks on the back panel and an unbreakable FR4 circuit board. YEAH you get all that stuff on, umm, OTHER amps I could mention but you pay a premium for it.
Allen mounts his power supply caps in a can under the chassis in traditional Fender style. They're a little harder to get at than if they were on the main circuit board but all that nasty hum is OUTSIDE the main chassis.
I plugged into my '65 Deluxe Reverb last night just to make sure I still don't need either a Cowtipper or maybe an Old Flame. Nope, I still don't need either of them!

Re: Bruno Cowtipper Gut Shots
I don't think putting the caps outside makes a difference in hum, I have two earlier Allens (Accomplice, Old Flame) with the caps inside. They're certainly quieter than my old Fenders, but they're also only 8 years old, not 40+.
The big advantage of putting the filter caps outside is a much roomier, less cluttered inside layout. Access to these caps is rarely necessary, and the associated resistors could be installed inside to facilitate those who like to fiddle with stage voltages.
Allens are very good interpretations of the basic blackface circuit, though I'll admit I don't care for the RAW control or the master volume. They're harmless, I just don't use them much.

Well, those builds look a whole lot better than some of the Brunos I've repaired. I just wish I had taken pics. Good to know things are getting better...
