Speakers for D'lite 22 ?
Hi, my first post at this forum. I'm not a builder rather a player but when I heard clips of the D'lite at youtube I did realize that I had to try to build one of these. Just placed an order at Brownnote. Many posts regarding this amp and since I'm not totally lost building things there should'nt be any problem building the amp I hope. Now I'm trying to find out what kind of speakers that will bring that tone out. I currently have one cab with 2 x 10' Celestions (G10 S50) (halfback) and one cab 2 x 12' , think this ones got Celestion Vintage 30's (closed back). When reading the thread's, Eminence seems to be the choice for other Dumble clones. Does this goes for the D'lite aswell?
The "Red White and Blues" got high scores on other threads, and the EV's of
course. I'm thinking of an oversized 1 x 12' with halfback. Please comment!

Hi, and welcome to the forum -
With Dumble style amps, most people probably use the Celestion G1265 or the EVM 12L. Personally, I've never used the EV, so I can't comment. But I like the 1265.

Nothing wrong with the added mids and slightly reduced highs of an eminence RW&B either, especially in a non-HRM. For the money it's still my fav for a new speaker in a non-HRM build.

Yeah, I still use the RWB.
. . . and the 1265.

I tried my Marshall bottom but found I preferred the EVM in my MKIV combo much better. It really sparkles with Tele.
Re: Speakers for D'lite 22 ?
I really, really like the Celestion G12-65 with my D'Lite. I had the RWB's, and they were cool but seemed a little dull in the high end.
I actually really like the sound of the D'Lite through my VHT Deliverance 4x12. It brings out a unique tone to the D'Lite that is very cool for more rock-influenced playing. It tightens up the bottom end and brings out a little midrange aggression.

Re: Speakers for D'lite 22 ?
Thx for all answers. When looking at the EV site there are two kind of speakers: EVM12L Blacklabel and EVM12L Classic. Which one are you refering to? (link: http://www.electrovoice.com/productfamilies/72.html)
I live in Europe (Sweden) and these are quite expensive here. You could buy 2 Celestions for the price of one EVM12L. I think I'll go for Celestions.
Anyone tested the Celestion Century or Century vintage? I have talked to the guys at Elmwood (http://www.elmwood.se/) and they don't like them even when trying to change the tonestack for a better match. They could save my back though...

I have been having good luck with this as an alternative to an EV. http://www.usspeaker.com/DELTAPRO12-1.htm
I own both - the Delta Pro 12A may have just a little roll off in the high end, but very nice sounding speaker.
Celestion G1265 is still my favorite in an HRM. I tend to like the EVM 12L in the non.

+1. I tried one for the first time tonight and I'm really happy with it. I suspect I'll like it even more once it gets a few hours on it, but right out of the box it sounds great.stelligan wrote:Gitarrmongot -

Found a vendor in Sweden for that one and at a good price also. I think I will go for the DeltaPro then. I'm mostly using single coil (Stratocaster) but also a wonderful Guild Bluesbird with Seymour Duncans PAF:s. Great forum!
Re: Speakers for D'lite 22 ?
Hey, guys. Why the G12-65 over the G12H? Just curious - I have little experience with Celestion speakers and am building my first D'Lite 22. It's going to be a "combo" format cabinet. Any thoughts on these two speakers would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Mark.

I'm in the same boat, hopefully I'll be done this week. I'm planning on trying a G12H-30 as one of many options for a single 12 combo. I just don't have the cabinet yet. Phil

Re: Speakers for D'lite 22 ?
I am also building a D lite.
Has any one got any experience with a Altec 417 series 2 12 inch with a card board dome ?
Is this same has the EV ?

I just recieved my 15" Alnico Weber Blue dog & tried it out. I think this is going to be the one. It's bright enough without being brittle. It sounds very big but not too tight. I like a 15 with this amp and this one is very musical. It also sounds great with my 18 watt lite.
I've got blisters on my fingers!
Re: Speakers for D'lite 22 ?
I have 3 Altec 417's and they are the best sounding speaker for clean that I have ever heard. Even better than my JBL D120F's. They do fine for dirty but there are better speakers for that. The problem with the ones I have (417 8H series II) is that they need higher wattage to push them and make them sound good. I bought a pair from a guy with a 30 watt Dumble clone who sold them because his clone couldn't push them enough. My Bassman and Twin make them sound awesome but they didn't sound good with my Tweed deluxe clone.
Maybe the older 417 models don't need as much wattage to push them.
