The fit and finish are great. Ask me again in a decade about longevity!

Just got a new scope. The Rigol 1054Z.
I've been looking at that one. Are the probes supplied adequate for amplifier voltages or do you need to get some better probes (10:1 or so)?

Thank you.

The supplied probes are 10:1. You just leave them in 10x mode, and scope is smart enough to auto adjust to most needs. I have not tried to measure plate voltage with this (use my multimeter). But the specs are good for...what was it? 600v?

I recently picked up a Siglent Digital Storage Oscilloscope.
Model SDS1052DL

More than I'll ever need.

Gotta love the AUTO button.

Tom, pushing the auto button is verboten. It's an admission you don't understand digital scopes and that you never want to learn. That the self-emasculation button. :P Do not press.

The "Auto" button is equivalent to Auto-Tune in music production.

I use it often. The Auto button, not the Auto-Tune. 8)

The probes that came with the Rigol I piicked up recently are switchable between 1:1 and 10:1. And they are rated for 300V. So, they work fine with signal level voltages.

To directly attach a probe to higher level areas of an amp, I picked up some 1kV rated probes. When I looked there was quite a range of probes in the 300 - 1500V range.

Some are priced more than the Chinese scope! Alot more. I found a probe that appears to be constructed to match it's 1000V rating for around $75. The cheaper ones I found seemed like 300V probes with the "rating" upgraded by the sales team. And reputable brand name probes rated at 1kV seem priced by the CEOs Bently repair man.
