Use a Cat5 cable. you have 8 wires and a nice interface.

Looks like what you are now using in your SOD II. How is it holding up? Sure looks easier than individually soldering wires to a DIN plug.

They work great and hold up well. Hell even if you break one, for $10.00 you can buy a replacement cable at most any store these days.

Neutrik makes a whole line of Cat5 connectors for chassis mounting.

This would appear to be the way to go. Thanx to all for your advice.

So the NE8FDP jack in the amp chassis mates with the NE8MC-B-1 plug from the FSW. And the plug takes one end of a standard male Cat 5 cable, and if you put another plug on the other end, also male Cat 5, into another NE8FDP jack on the FSW box. Then wire it up internally. Is that how it works?

Yes, I use a NE8FAV-Y110 in both the amp and footswitch. Thene a standard Cat5 between the two.

Easy to wire with the push-in connections. You can also get an XLR type of hood for the cable, but I have never bothered with them.

Thanx again, Gary! I see you rear-mount yours to the rear chassis apron. If I front-mount mine, can I just drill the round hole without the little cutout for the locking lever release? The Neutrik dwg isn't too clear on that, it seems to say it's only a round cutout required for either. Is that true?

Apologies for so many questions.

I single 7/8" round hole is all that is needed. The lock will fit right in.

When I modify my current footswitches, I use a step drill.

A really cool trick is that the little insert piece (ring) on the front of the connector can be pryed off to use as a drilling template for the two mounting screws (which are included with the connectors I listted). Just drop it into the hole you drill (7/8") mark and drill the two small mounting screw holes.

Great, I have a step drill with 7/8" on it. Thanx also for that mounting screw hole tip! I plan to bolt two AES 3-switch boxes together and drill one end for the Neutrik jack. Makes a pretty big FSW but what else can you do?

FSW w/Neutrik Cat 5 Jack Installed

Post by David Root »

I wasn't quite sure this big jack would fit into the AES 3-Button FSW, but it does. See pix below. Not a pretty installation from the outside but it doesn't look that bad in normal light.

Now I have to drill a hole in each of two FSWs, bolt them together, re-wire all six FSW buttons with LEDs in parallel, then wire up all six plus a common ground.

I'm digging this thread up from the grave!!

I'm curious about these neutrik jacks. Can they be front mounted? It looks like they are rear mount??

And do you need to buy a punch tool to get the wires in? Will it work with stranded wire?

I'd be curious about the answers this too, as I'm building a new bluesmaster at the moment, the cat 5 footswitch might be worth a try.

not sure this jack comes apart
so front mounting may be apita
as far as a punch tool nice but not necessary unless you have a lot
cheap one will do
http://www.amazon.com/Cable-Matters%C2% ... at+5+punch
I have used a pocket knife to punch in a pinch

The Neutrik uses SOLID wire only. Requried an 110 punch to push the wires in. Recommend no larger than 22 gauge wire. And NO TEFLON.
They rear mount only and the holes for the mounting screws should be countersunk.

I have used them for years on my SOD II and the associated footswitch. They work great albeit at the price they should.

But the customer can run to walmart if they need a new footswitch cable.
