I could use 85vDC (from 120vAC). Only rectifier and filtering would be needed, no transformer.

That gerpud has absolutely not clue, that he ignored return wiring, grounding, DC coupling, Class A inefficiency, signal level, etc. is peanuts compared to his suggesting a deadly circuit and not being strongly said not to do so, and why.

With no further discussion until that is clearly understood and acknowledged.

We gotta crawl before we learn to walk, etc. Imagine if I'd built what I was dreaming of in 1972, power amps "straight off the AC line." Luckily I thought out the safety aspects first and nixed the project.

We're lucky Juan, got half a century of electronics experience. Our friend GERPUD's just starting out on his, and smart enough to ask before he does something dangerous.

Perhaps some other forum's mods would shut it down but then how do you caution someone who's about to wire up a spark'n'shock machine? Where's the mods on MEF for instance? At least GERPUD is an honest fellow, not trying to strip-mine our knowledge base to "invent" and market something like that goofy banana-jack project I'm sure you recall.

People besides us are reading these threads too. And they learn what and what not to do, and why. It might not be as straightforward as reading a textbook, but it isn't boring; you get things like this that grab one's attention, that's when the learning happens. Some of your entries have been long and thorough, I read them and learn, I thank you for passing along your knowledge and experience for my benefit and everyone else too.

FWIW I'm not "judging the novice" at all, we've all been there, but amazed that more experienced Members are not strongly warning him against not only dangerous but potentially lethal errors, before even offering other advice which is technically correct but tends to dilute the teaspoon of warning in a full glass or a bucket of other info.
Which makes it easier to be missed or ignored.
