One of the last Quinn 183s made.

Post by tag101 »

I really hope Shad gets his act together. I was able to borrow this amp again from one of my employees who bought it from Quinn. I think I have posted about this amp before, but its exceptionally clear and articulate. More so than either one of mine or the actual #183. I am going to check, but it MAY have larger transformers. The thing weighs a ton, and that would help explain the unreal clarity. I am going to undress it and compare to mine. I also borrowed his PRS (That use to be mine, and I gave him for a Xmas bonus a few years back when I was broke and had zero cash.) I made this clip with my same old equipment from 10 years ago, but maybe some of the good shines through. Mesa cab with G12H30s. TRex reverb in the loop, no Dumbleator.
I would LOVE to buy this from him, but he is NOT selling. Yes, the bone is there because the amp is truly bad to the bone.

Here are a couple of small pics I took. I found the amp has 1 mercury magnetics transformer. I know that is different than mine. I really hope to be able to purchase this amp at some point. :x Phenomenal sound. The push pulls are a PITA though. I MUCH prefer switches.

Gooped. :P It seems as though it has less gain than both of mine, so it would be interesting to see what is different. It could be the pot taper is just different and makes it seem that way however. I have to keep both the pre and lead gain knobs quite a bit higher to give the same amount of perceived gain as on my two.
