Re: New build AB763 what resistors
Back to Zippy's point, Firestorm's reference to Keen's article on CC resistors, and the reason I noted that my measurements above were at low voltage: some effects may indeed not be noticeable unless voltages are up in the 100's. The dielectric in capacitors is said to behave differently when it is blocking high voltage, but as I recall in the article I read that mentioned it, the effect on harmonic distortion was shown to be small. In the end I'm in agreement with BillyZ's earlier suggestion to keep an open mind.
Re: New build AB763 what resistors
I built a Champ (SS recto/6L6, 15W iron) with Sprague atom filter caps, Orange drop couplers, and cc resistors. A friend asked for a BOM to build one just like it. I went over to hear it after he finished and saw that he had ordered the same iron but had gotten IC filter caps, mallory 150 couplers, and MF resistors.
After hearing his tone, I got mine and my A/B to compare through one of my cabs(2x12 with separate inputs for two heads).
Even though I've convinced myself that I can hear the difference since I had top shelf components...truth be told, I can't.
Maybe with more complex circuits it does make a difference, but with a simple circuit like the champ I simply can't hear much of a difference.

Re: New build AB763 what resistors
I like the dumble approach of precision metal film resistors on the plates and cathodes of the preamp tubes. Also using a good 1% metal film for the grid reference on V1. I took this approach in my princeton build and currently in a high gain build. I do like to use the Panasonic 2 watt metal oxides in the power section, if nothing else because they look good lol.
